Middle School Choir
HNJ offers a vibrant middle school choir for students in grades 5–7, providing a rich musical experience. The choir’s mission is to cultivate musicianship, compassion, and integrity through liturgical works, sacred music, and a diverse range of high-quality repertoire. Students develop vocal technique, sight-reading skills, and an appreciation for choral music, working with professional pianists and master musicians. The choir performs weekly at the children’s Mass, with additional opportunities for recordings, competitions, educational field trips, and collaborations with Loyola University. Many students also have solo performance opportunities, fostering teamwork, personal growth, and a lifelong love of music.
Honor Choirs (Grades 4–7)
Through the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), students may audition for All-State and District Honor Choirs. Accepted students study under nationally recognized conductors, composers, and choral directors, culminating in concerts featuring over 200 students from across Louisiana.
Private Music Instruction
HNJ provides one-on-one music lessons through the Later Gators after-school program. Piano, guitar, and voice lessons allow students to progress individually, culminating in a Spring concert to showcase their achievements.
Collaboration with Loyola University
Students work alongside Loyola University professors and music majors in jazz and classical rehearsals, performances, and masterclasses. This collaboration exposes students to improvisation and professional-level musicianship, offering a dynamic, hands-on learning experience.
Guest Performers and Masterclasses
HNJ draws from the rich musical heritage of New Orleans, inviting accomplished local musicians to share their expertise in classical and jazz music. These artists inspire students to explore their creativity, deepen their technical skills, and engage with music in a meaningful way.
