At Holy Name of Jesus School, our Early Childhood program nurtures the social, emotional, and academic development of children in PK-3, PK-4, and Kindergarten. We focus on building responsibility, self-esteem, and a love of learning through play-based, child-led exploration. Our instruction is also guided based on student interest of topics through project-based learning. This cultivates creativity with real-life experiences for our students. Our Early Childhood Program is guided by data and informed by student progress, ensuring each child’s growth and learning are supported every step of the way.
PreK-3
Learning is an exciting adventure in PreK-3! Hands-on, project-based learning fosters curiosity, creativity, and teamwork. Fine motor and sensory play support coordination, cognitive growth, and emotional expression. Each day begins with Morning Meeting, where students greet, engage, and connect with one another to build a true classroom community.
PreK-4
PreK-4 nurtures curiosity and independence. Morning Meetings build social connections and creating a classroom family, while literacy instruction through Fundations develops phonics and early reading skills. Hands-on, project-based learning encourages problem-solving, confidence, and ownership of learning.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten strengthens reading and foundational math skills. Students develop phonics, letter formation, and sight word recognition through Fundations and guided reading. Math instruction introduces number sense, basic operations, patterns, and shapes. Hands-on learning remains a key part of daily instruction.
Enrichment Classes
All Early Childhood students attend daily enrichment classes, including Art, Library, Music, Physical Education, and French. Kindergarten students also participate in Theater, creating a rich and well-rounded educational experience.
