Our Partnership with Loyola University
For more than a century, Holy Name of Jesus School and Parish have shared both a neighborhood and a mission with Loyola University New Orleans. Today, that relationship has grown into a strategic partnership designed to strengthen our community of students, families, faculty, and staff in faith, learning, ministry, and mission.
Together, we celebrate the God-given talents of our faculties and students while supporting one another in the work of education and formation. Rooted in our shared Jesuit mission, we strive to form Christian disciples and servant leaders—young people committed to living as “men and women for others.”
The Jesuits have shaped education for nearly 500 years, setting a standard of excellence that continues to inspire us. It is our hope that this unique partnership will not only thrive but also serve as a model for Catholic education in New Orleans and beyond.
What is the Loyola University / Holy Name of Jesus School partnership?
The partnership is built on our shared Jesuit mission to form “men and women for others.” By working more closely together, Loyola and Holy Name strengthen community, faith, learning, ministry, and mission.
Through this collaboration, Loyola offers resources such as faculty expertise, facilities, technology, and athletic spaces. Holy Name, in turn, provides Loyola students opportunities for hands-on experience in leadership, teaching, counseling, and ministry with children.
Will this change daily life and operations?
No. Both schools remain independent. Holy Name continues as an excellent parochial Catholic elementary school, and Loyola continues as a nationally recognized Jesuit university. The partnership simply creates new opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing.
Why now?
This partnership is the natural extension of a century-long relationship. Conversations began in 2019 among Holy Name’s new pastor, Fr. Mark Thibodeaux, S.J., Principal Kirsch Williams, and Loyola’s then-president, Tania Tetlow. They recognized fresh opportunities to advance our shared mission, leading to the formal announcement in January 2022.
What does this mean for students, families, faculty, and staff?
Holy Name students benefit from access to Loyola’s STEM labs, news studios, performing arts programs, and athletic facilities. They also enjoy enrichment opportunities such as summer camps and swim lessons at the University Sports Complex.
Loyola students gain real-world experience through classroom observations, student teaching, counseling training, and work-study programs—whether tutoring math, leading STEM labs, teaching piano, or helping with Later Gators.
Holy Name faculty and staff enjoy access to Loyola’s sports complex at discounted rates and other community opportunities.
Faculty and staff at both institutions benefit through professional development, shared expertise, discounted tuition for children, and expanded opportunities for lifelong learning.
What are the downsides?
None! This partnership is a win-win for both institutions, and we are excited to continue discovering new ways to grow together.
