Middle School at Holy Name of Jesus prepares students for a successful transition to high school. Fifth through seventh graders study five core subjects along with Physical Education and Spanish, following Louisiana State Standards to ensure academic readiness. Students also select from a diverse list of elective options spanning multiple disciplines designed to highlight their interests and natural abilities. In English Language Arts, students read and analyze classic and contemporary literature and nonfiction while developing writing and grammar skills using Voyages in English. IXL and NWEA MAPP provide data to support targeted small-group instruction.
In Math, students develop reasoning and problem-solving skills, constructing arguments and applying tools strategically. Science incorporates hands-on experiments in life, earth, and physical sciences, using microscopes, sensors, and probeware to enhance learning.
Technology is integrated across all subjects, with 1:1 Chromebooks supporting a blended learning environment. Students seeking advanced challenges may pursue higher-level coursework. Students also take coding to learn foundational computer science concepts and text-based coding languages like Python and CoffeeScript.
Middle School also emphasizes personal growth and leadership. Students navigate changing classes, manage lockers, and participate in school traditions, including a seventh-grade overnight retreat. Character development, friendship, and responsibility are central as students prepare to become leaders and transition to high school.
